The 2-Photon system consists of a rack and a workstation, aka. a beefy desktop. Since its debut in 2015, the workstation has required a few tricks to tame it.

Correct Sequence to Boot It Up

Step 1: Ensure you do not interrupt anyone else’s ongoing work and that the system is fully turned OFF.

    • Inspect power switch on top of the rack, make sure it’s off.
    • Inspect the the power button on the workstation, make sure there is no blue light.

Step 2: First, turn on the rack power by flipping the switch (the switch lights will turn on). Then, within seconds, turn on the workstation by pressing the power button (you will see power button turns blue).

Step 3: Once you log in, wait for 3 minutes to allow the system to fully boot up. For the nerds: this is to prevent race conditions in the old system before you run your own software. If the machine previously wasn’t shut down properly, this 3-minute wait allows the storage system to start its rebuild in the background.

Step 4: run the laser or the microscope software.
